Permission was given for ROBBER’S BRIDGE (IRE) to be mounted in the chute.
On the approach to the first hurdle, Fireworks (FR), unplaced, slowed markedly inconveniencing EN EVANT (FR), which unseated its rider as a result, further hampering both PUMPKIN’S PRIDE, placed fourth, and the winner, Bergentown (IRE), but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of Armattiekan (IRE), which started second-favourite and finished unplaced, beaten by 83¼ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that Donald McCain could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Armattiekan (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
