P.J. Smullen, rider of Alaykha trained by D.K. Weld, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount had to check in the straight. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Decision Time, ridden by E.J. McNamara, and trained by John E. Kiely. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and also from the trainer's representative, Tommy Kiely. E.J. McNamara, stated that his instructions were to get his mount travelling in a nice rhythm and to come home well. He added that he was slowly away and got further back than ideal before staying on in the straight, despite being repeatedly denied a clear run.He concluded by saying that a step up in trip would help the horse. Evidence was also heard from Tommy Kiely who confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He added that there was a slight concern pre-race that the horse was suffering from colic but having undergone a veterinary check they were happy to run. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Decision Time was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Furthermore the rider was cautioned concerning his responsibilities to report anything that may have affected a horse's performance, in accordance with Rule 213.
