Hospitalised local trainer Bill Harney received a welcome tonic with a 168-1 double at Thurles.

The Templemore-based handler fell on the ice last weekend, fracturing his elbow, and had an operation on Saturday in Tullamore Hospital.

But his luck changed in dramatic fashion thanks to the brace, which was completed when dead-heater Kakagh was named the outright winner of the Littleton (C & G) Maiden Hurdle in the stewards' room.

The 25-1 shot was pressing leader Colleoni from two out but was carried across the track before the final flight where jockey John Cullen lost an iron.

They crossed the line together but Colleoni was demoted to second following an inquiry.< Prairie Call (11-2) initiated the brace with a head win over the favourite Golden Sunbird in the Cashel Mares Maiden Hurdle under Robbie Colgan.

"These two winners will cheer him up," said daughter Rachel Harney.

Conditional jockey Denis Hogan got off the mark as a trainer when steering his Kylebeg Krystle to an easy win, the 2-1 favourite beating Carnbridge by five and a half lengths in the Tipperary Handicap Hurdle.

Hogan was partnering his sixth winner of the season and is based with Charlie Swan.

"I have only had my licence since last summer and my father Martin owns Kylebeg Krystle. I have four horses in training and use Charlie Swan's gallops," he said.
