< Emmpat stepped up on his third in a Flat race at Listowel on Wednesday to win the feature Guinness Surge Novice Chase as the curtain came down on the Festival meeting.

It was a thriller, too, as Charlie Swan's versatile gelding had to pull out all the stops under David Casey to fend off the challenge of odds-on favourite Archie Boy

Emmpat was in the process of taking it up at the second-last when The God Of Love fell, and the 4-1 shot then popped over the final fence before holding Archie Boy's sustained bid by a neck.< Bullhill Flyer sprung a big surprise in the Edmond Whelan Memorial Handicap Hurdle, scoring at 50-1 for the Sabrina Harty yard.

Shane Hassett was always close up on the eight-year-old, who joined issue with Corporate Account at the second-last flight and took a decisive lead approaching the last.

Corporate Account plugged on gamely but the winner bounded away to score by six lengths.< La Mere Germaine (15-2) was a debut winner for Kevin Prendergast in the Lynch's Bakery Fillies Maiden.

Declan McDonogh swept past long-time leader Rum Raisin a furlong out and was soon in the clear before easily holding Dinah Doll by a length and a quarter.

Danny Grant managed to extricate himself from a tricky position on the rail to snatch the Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap in the last strides on Shy Smile (7-1).

Jim Gorman's filly had a wall of horses in front of her, but the jockey pulled her out to the wide outside to deliver a late surge and she just nailed Lizzie Bennett by a short head.

Another to win with a late run was the Jim Bolger-trained Sixteen Forty Two (14-1) in the Killocrim Handicap.< Hampshire took it up a furlong and a half out and looked to be heading for a hard-fought victory, but Kevin Manning got the winner into top gear and he flew home to score by half a length.
