Fran Berry booted home a double at Killarney, culminating in a battling success for Modem in the Malton Handicap.
Berry was confident aboard the Jessica Harrington-trained 11-10 favourite, cutting through the field in good style on the home straight, but he had to pull out all the stops to haul in the game Zemario winning by a neck
Berry got the ball rolling when Western Boy (7-2) overhauled long-time leader Alguazil to land the Ladbrokes Ireland Maiden.
Pat Fahy's charge had not been hitting the same heights over obstacles as when beaten less than a length by Vautour in January last year, but got back to winning ways on his Flat debut, overhauling his pacesetting rival in the final furlong and scoring by three-quarters of a length.< Erlkonig caused a 16-1 upset in the richest race on the card, the Bunkers Bar And restaurant Killorglin Handicap Hurdle.
Danny Mullins was content to watch from the rear of the field early on, but Tony Mullins' charge blew past his rivals before the last and galloped on strongly, leaving Landau and Your Busy toiling in his wake.< On A Pedestal ended a run of three straight seconds with victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies And Mares Handicap.
Ana O'Brien was at pains to keep her father Aidan's filly out wide when mounting her challenge entering the final furlong, though the 3-1 favourite did flash her tail when asked for maximum effort, as was the case on her previous outings.
She kept on nicely in the closing stages, though, eventually pulling a length and a quarter clear of Sidra < Wonder Holy (12-1) defied a welter burden to land the Corcoran's Furniture And Carpets Handicap for trainer Johnny Feane and jockey Robbie Downey, while Brian O'Connell guided the Jim Culloty-trained Winter's Over to victory in the Killarney Avenue/Munster Joinery Maiden Hurdle.
