Review gowran park 25th Jan
Gordon Elliott broke his Goffs Thyestes Chase duck as Monbeg Notorious landed a gamble in the big Gowran Park handicap.
Despite being a novice with just three outings over fences under his belt, the seven-year-old was backed down to 7-2 favourite and having raced in around fourth, cruised up to take the lead off Fine Theatre on landing over three out.
The result never looked in doubt from that point, but Jack Kennedy kept Monbeg Notorious up to his work to beat fellow Gigginstown House Stud representative Wounded Warrior by 11 lengths, with the Elliott-trained Space Cadet third.< Presenting Percy (9-4 joint-favourite) warmed up for the Cheltenham Festival with an impressive triumph in the John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle.
Pat Kelly's exciting novice chaser reverted to the smaller obstacles for this Grade Two but took it up after the third-last and a spring-heeled leap at the final flight helped seal a five-and-a-half-length defeat of Augusta Kate < Scarpeta attracted late money ahead of the Langton House Hotel Maiden Hurdle and produced an impressive display to justify the support.
The Willie Mullins-trained 13-8 favourite was always prominent in the hands of Paul Townend and pulled out plenty in the testing conditions to account for Cartwright by 17 lengths.
Mullins doubled up courtesy of Montalbano in the PMF Accountants Beginners Chase.
His stable companion Bunk Off Early s fall at the penultimate obstacle left matters between De Plotting Shed and Montalbano, and it was the 4-1 shot who found most to prevail by three and a half lengths.< Peace N' Milan (10-1) is most effective when the mud is flying and proved as much with a dogged display in the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle, seeing off Graineyhill by three and a half lengths.
Wings Of Arion (7-1 co-favourite) made a successful handicap debut in the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle, while Edene D'Arc (14-1) took the P.J. Foley Memorial Flat Race for Elliott and Declan Lavery.
