Review curragh 7th Aug
Pat Smullen kickstarted a double at the Curragh when guiding shock 25-1 scorer Riyazan to victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
Odds-on favourite Nelson made up ground in the closing stages, but he never got close to Michael Halford's charge, who streaked clear before the furlong marker and kept on to beat the market leader by two and three-quarter lengths.
Smullen then struck again as Kailee emerged victorious from a tight finish to the Curragh 'Where Champions Are Made' Fillies And Mares Maiden.
A whole host of contenders were in with a shout at the furlong pole, but Smullen got Bill Farrell's 3-1 chance up close home and she ran on well to beat Bay Of Skaill by a head.
Aidan O'Brien was unsuccessful with Nelson, but his Fleet Review made no mistake when making all the running to land the Eleanor Comer Memorial Race.
Donnacha O'Brien was happy to lead on the 5-2 chance and though Smullen loomed as a danger on I Am Power Fleet Review found more close home to score by a length.< Comhghairdeas plotted a similar route to Fleet Review to bag the Kildare Post Maiden.
Andrew Slattery's 8-1 chance was smartly away under Declan McDonogh and after leading up the near rail, he had just enough in reserve to repel Smullen on The Great Wall by a head.< Captain Cullen got up late to land the Curragh Training Grounds Apprentice Handicap.
Evan Daly managed to find an extra gear on Joseph Murray's 12-1 chance and he mowed down long-time leader Poetic Choice to score by three-quarters of a length.
Richard O'Brien's Alans Pride (3-1 favourite) stormed home under Gary Halpin to land the Experience It With racehorseownership.ie Handicap, while the Donal Kinsella-trained Ducky Mallon (11-2) took the Luke And Nellie Comer Memorial Handicap under Niall McCullagh.
