There's nothing unusual about Willie Mullins winning the last race on the card but it is usually a bumper or the Queen Alexandra Stakes at the weekend to close out Royal Ascot, however, this evening in Sligo Your Eyes Only surged home to win the fillies' and mares' maiden at 12/1. Selador was backed down to 8/11 favourite and set out to make all over this extended mile and a quarter. She attempted to kick off the home turn, however, Your Eyes Only came wide into the straight and really found her stride.
She was ridden by Colin Keane to claim the leader in the closing stages and took the honours by three parts of a length. Not Uncertain completed the placings in third at 7/2.
Keane said: “She’s had to come forward a massive amount from her first run (when eighth in Fairyhouse). We went nice and even and she was plenty green early doors, but the further she was going the better she was going. It took us a full lap of the track to pull her up so I'd say she'll come on a lot from today and she's a filly that will go a little bit further.
"Willie was hopeful of a good run. He said she was very green the first day and that he didn't really learn anything. He said to try and teach her something and try and tell him something about her, and we couldn't have asked for anything more from her.
"I wouldn't say I was always confident that I'd reel them in. When we started to climb the hill I thought I was going to run on and be placed but the further she went the better she went."
