Youcantcallherthat opened her account under rules in style when taking the I N H Stallion Owners EBF beginners Chase in runaway fashion at Cork.
The six-year-old mare landed a mares’ maiden at Quakerstown last year and, following a hurdle campaign last season, has been switched to fences this term.
Trained and ridden by Denis Hogan, the daughter of Brian Boru was prominent throughout and stayed on strongly in the straight drawing clear to beat evens favourite Monbeg Chit Chat by 23 lengths. High Nellie was a further six lengths adrift in third.
Hogan said of the 12/1 winner, “It’s hard to see how she fell in Wexford. I think she got blinded by the sun at the first fence because she’s a brilliant jumper.
“I’m delighted for the lads (Lostwelton Syndicate from Monivea, Co Galway) because I stopped them selling her and told them she would win a chase or two. Hopefully she will go on from here.
“In that ground you dare not take off the revs because they can tie up quick, and in fairness she kept going well. She is a proper staying type of mare. She jumps and loves the heavy ground.
“She can go for some of those mares’ races and I’m sure there will be a race for her in Limerick at Christmas where it will be good and testing.”
