Pat Smullen gave Three Kingdoms a lovely ride from the front to complete a double for Dermot Weld in the concluding Renmore Maiden at Galway.
Weld had been on the mark half-an-hour earlier through the Leigh Roche-ridden Leyland and indeed Smullen himself was also securing a brace on Three Kingdoms having previously been on the mark with Joe Murphy’s Consonance
Smullen now three off Jospeh O'Brien in the race to be champion jockey, (the Ballydoyle youngster of course had a treble here) quickened the pace decisively on the blinkered Street Cry colt in the last, at the two furlong pole.
Reappearing quite quickly having been third at Clonmel on Thursday, Three Kingdoms (11/10 into 9/10) galloped on well up the straight to slam main market rival Faanan Aldaar by nine and a half lengths.
"He enjoyed himself in front, handled the ground and stayed at it well," said Smullen after the win. (DM & EM)
