After making a successful return to the training ranks on February 14th when his Miss Mediator scored over the course, Tommy Carmody had to wait forty-seven days and ten runners later for his second winner as his Ursa Minor (2/1jfav) took the concluding Maiden over 1m 2f at Dundalk tonight under Johnny Murtagh.
The winner, who is a 3yo son of Galileo and races in the colour of Andrew Tinkler, finished second on his debut over the course and distance last month behind China One but managed to go one place better this evening staying on best close home to score by just an neck at the line from the Dermot Weld trained filly Voleuse De Coeurs (7/1) back in second under Pat Smullen.
The Ger Lyons trained, Niall McCullagh ridden King's Warrant who led two furlongs out, finished a further neck back in third at 7/1 while the other 2/1 joint favourite Unanimous for Aidan & Joseph O’Brien could only manage a disappointing fifth.
Winning trainer Tommy Carmody said afterwards: "His run here the last day was very pleasing.
"He does nothing at home, he is very laid back. Tonight was a bonus and we will see where he goes now. We will step him up to a mile and a half.
"The plan was tonight and he will progress from here." (DM & GC)
