The drop to Listed company paid dividends for Twirl as she maintained the gallop from the front to take the featured Hurry Harriet Stakes at Gowran Park.
Aidan O’Brien secured a Gowran double with her win at 6/1 and also had the first two in the race as Soon (12/1) stayed on well behind her stablemate for second.
Twirl has been contesting top-class races including the Irish Oaks (seventh), the Ribblesdale (fifth) and the English Oaks (11th). Midnight Music (8/1) was a neck away from Soon in third for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen.
Winning jockey Colm O’Donoghue said: “That was a good performance. She travelled well and picked up well.
“She galloped all the way to the line. She’s not finished for the year yet.”
Gerry Aherne, representing the Smith, Magnier and Tabor triumvirate of owners, added: “She had her day. She had run some good races behind The Fugue and Shirocco Star.
“Colm O’Donoghue said there is more to come. The second filly will have her day as well.
“Joseph (O’Brien) picked the sixth one (Devotion), but if you ran that race a few times you would probably have different results.” Chrysanthemum went off the 11/4 favourite for David Wachman and Wayne Lordan, but she could make no impression in fifth place.
Joseph O’Brien put up two pounds overweight on Devotion Aidan O’Brien’s third runner in the race.
