Jockey John Tobin registered his second career success on 6/1 shot Never A Secret who again confirmed her fondness for racing at Kilbeggan.
The nine-year-old mare now has two wins and two placings from six spins round the County Westmeath track.
Tobin’s first win as a jockey came on Between Me And You, who scored at 33/ for Thomas Gibney at Down Royal in a maiden hurdle on August 26 2011.
“I’ve just been struggling to get rides,” Tobin, a seven-pound claimer from Kells, Co Meath, commented after passing the post first in the two mile handicap hurdle.
Tobin was left without his left iron before the last, but still got the mare to stay on to beat Vinniespride (25/1) and Derek Fox by two lengths. This was the first form shown by the runner-up since racing in Scotland almost two years ago. Corr Point took third at 11/1, a further 11 lengths away, under Andrew Lynch.
Hugh Finegan trains the mare and he said: “I was hopeful today. We’ll see what the handicapper does. She loves this track.” Absolute Heretic and Save My Blushes were the 9/2 joint favourites, but came in 10th and 11th respectively.
