Mullaghmore Wave (11/2) registered a third career success at Fairyhouse today, as the John McConnell-trained nine-year-old mare landed the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase under jockey Alex Harvey, for owner Eithne McMorrow.

The Scorpion-mare had previously won twice over hurdles and today, on just her fifth chase outing, was produced from rear-division to lead at the second-last and, on the run-in, held General Hubble by a half-length.

Jockey Harvey reported “it's taken a little while for the penny to drop with her jumping, but she was sharp enough today. In her previous runs she didn't travel and flew home so I happy enough to send her on early and make use of her stamina. She really ground it out and the jump at the last probably secured.

“She's a mare that stays very well and she was really good when the speed was on, jumping wise. She was a little bit idle in front so there is a bit left there.

“It's great for the owners who have been very patient with her, it's nice they've been paid back.”
