Teolane shows her class
Teolane did it gamely from the front when landing the odds in the six furlong fillies listed race at Naas for Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning.
The 11/10 favourite had been backed in the offices from even money to 4/6 but drifted on course from 4/5 to 11/10. Her backers had few concerns as the race unfolded though.
Jessica Harrington’s well-backed Princess Sinead (5/1 to 3/1) was the only filly to make a race of it with the front-runner but never quite got on terms and finished two-and-a-half lengths adrift at the line.
Paul Deegan’s Naseem Sea finished third at 6/1 with the remaining six runners well behind.
Trainer Jim Bolger said: “She’s not certain to go to the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot as it might just be a little bit too close. We’ll see how she comes out of today’s race.
“I might go to the Albany with Somasach [Tipperary winner on June 1].
“If Teolane doesn’t go to Ascot then it could be Moyglare time before she runs again.
“She’ll get any trip and could stay a mile and a half. She could be anything, the further she goes the better.
“If she does go to the Albany Stakes then Somasach will run in the Queen Mary.”
Bolger also gave an update on Claiomh Solais and Banimpire, fourth and fifth respectively in the Irish 1000 Guineas last time.
“Claiomh Solais could run in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
“If the ground is any way right at Cork next Friday Banimpire could run there and then I’ll look at the Ribblesdale Stakes. If the ground is not good then she will go straight to Royal Ascot.”
