Son Of Rest was all the rage for the five-furlong maiden in Cork and his backers had few concerns as he justified odds-on favouritism.

He was 4/6 this morning and opened at 1/2 before being punted down to 4/11.

Son Of Rest was urged to go about his business a furlong and a half down by Chris Hayes and he quickly asserted his superiority over Shinko Princess.

The leader drew clear inside the final 150 yards to readily put six and a half lengths on Florida Times (33/1), who stayed on for a runner-up reward on debut.

Shinko Princess (12/1) kept on at the same pace for third, beaten over nine lengths by the winner.

Trainer Fozzy Stack said: "He doesn't kill himself when he hits the front so the race wasn't run to suit but he was entitled to do that.

"He wasn't drilled for today by any means and I was half toying between coming for this race or the seven-furlong maiden but just thought the ground would be testing enough and came for this.

"He'll go for Navan next month for a six furlong Listed race [run as the Listed Coolmore Stud Power Stakes in 2016] next."

Son Of Rest's owner Brian Parker is based in Malahide, Co Dublin but is originally from Midleton, Co Cork, "hence the (red and white) colours!" quipped Stack.
