Solstice Knight ground down Sea Master in the extended two miles six furlong handicap chase at Fairyhouse when winning by a cosy length and three quarters.

The race looked at the mercy of Sea Master (8/1) and David Splaine, especially when Shattered Dream in third fell at the last. However, Barry Geraghty and Solstice Knight (12/1) proved too strong on the run in.

Edward O'Grady, the successful trainer, said: “Great credit to the owners (Nelius Hayes and D Cox) and staff as he’s a horse that’s broken down a couple of times.

“The better ground made a difference. He didn’t run too badly at Navan when he pulled up before the last behind a horse that finished fifth in the National (Panther Claw).

“I’m sure the owners would like to go to Punchestown and we’ll see if he’s sound after that.”
