Slim To None (6/1) followed up on his recent shock 33/1 success at Killarney as he took the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Cork for his trainer Philip Rothwell with Andrew Ring aboard.
Ring who is 21 and from Castlecomer in Co Kilkenny is based with Rothwell and was enjoying his second track success today after recording his maiden win aboard Ample Appeal also for Rothwell at Limerick in March.
He turned professional in January and had three point-to-point successes before he made the switch from amateur.
Bottom weight Fitzgutentyte (11/2) attempted to make all on just his second start for Colm Murphy with Kevin Sexton in the saddle.
However he was headed by the winner before the last and kept on from there without being able to claw back the deficit, going down by a length and a half at the line. Thepartysover finished a further seventeen lengths back in third at 16/1 under Jody McGarvey while the 2/1 favourite Frankie Flowers could only manage fifth for Philip Fenton with Martin Burke aboard.
A Stewards Enquiry was called after the race as the winner drifted left and impeded the runner-up on the run-in.
The result was left unchanged.
The win of Slim To None was the second success in as many days for Rothwell who scored with Paddy O Dee at Galway yesterday.
