Home Secretary made a winning debut in handicap company when running away with the second division of the apprentice handicap under Padraig Beggy.

The Garvan Donnelly-trained gelding led over a furlong-and-a-half from home and stayed on strongly to record a five-and-a-half length success over Mad Existence

"He's always showed us promise and just needed the step up," said Donnelly.

"His job is over hurdles but he can't handle soft ground. He wants nice ground and we'll keep him to that job for a while. The slow pace suited him."
