Carry Each Other is a huge big horse, described as a "magnificent," looker by his trainer, Mouse Morris. Maybe a track like Thurles didn't play to his strengths but Davy Russell's performance aboard the 6/4 favourite, was something akin to Morris' description of his charge, as the market-leader obliged in the Devils Bit Beginners Chase.
Twice a winner 'between the flags,' Carry Each Other didn't look like adding to those gains for much of the two mile five furlongs here.
After the last fence in the back straight the Milan gelding's chances looked remote, as he was ridden along in a moderate seventh placing.
However just a hint of promise began to grow for Russell's mount as he closed two out, but Western Man seemed to have them all beaten at that stage as he still moved smoothly.
That fellow had no more to give on the run-in though and he was mown down and beaten a length and a half by Carry Each Other.
Russell, riding here for his employers, Gigginstown House Stud, had earlier initiated the brace aboard Philip Byrne's Moiqen in the opener. (AM & EM)
