There was early money about for her when down the field last time at Clonmel, but at 66/1 Highstreet Roller sprung a surprise today in the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Punchestown.
This daughter of Jeremy won a point-to-point at the start of her career for Matthew Flynn O’Connor and some of her racecourse performances haven’t been without merit.
However she took it to a new level from the front on this occasion under Noel McParlan, beating Jeremys Jewel by five lengths.
“I thought she would do that a year ago. It’s probably my fault as I delayed getting her wind done, and that’s the first time she’s got her ground since it was done,” said winning trainer Tom Gibney.
“I fancied her the last day at Clonmel but she got stuck in a gluepot and I’m lucky that I have a patient owner in Leonard Kinsella.
“The ground will probably dictate what we do and if it got heavy we could wait for the spring.”
The Stewards fined Matthew J. Smith, trainer, €65 for failing to fit cheek pieces to Mal De Mer prior to entering the parade ring.
Under the provisions of Rule 90, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Nell's Well trained by Sean O. O'Brien, as the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. Furthermore they informed the trainer that Nell's Well would be ineligible to run until the error is corrected to the satisfaction of the IHRB Veterinary Officer and any period of suspension imposed has expired.
