Rigid Rock provides masssive upset
Rigid Rock made a mockery of his 25/1 odds when romping away with the 20-runner six furlong handicap at Naas.
Kevin Manning, securing his second winner on the card, sent the four-year-old son of Refuse To Bend clear a furlong out and the duo powered home for a facile three and a half length success.
Trainer Jim Gorman explained the victory. He said: “He had a nice draw today. He had a terrible draw the last three days.
“He was quick out of the gates. I’m delighted for the owners Bill and Penny Foley as they are my biggest patrons.
“I have only had one winner for them this season so far, so it’s good to get another.
“Things are starting to click into place for me now.”
The winner paid a healthy 42.90 euro on the Tote as he took full advantage of his slipping handicap mark. Rose Garnet with Colm O’Donoghue in the plate took second at 12/1. Stones Peak (10/1) and Withnail (12/1) completing the placings.
Horses that attracted money in the race were Desert Ben (14/1 to 8/1) who finished 17th and Erins Gal (6/1 to 9/2 favourite) who came home sixth.
