Real Steel got the better of his main market rival Le Vent D’Antan in the Naas Annual Membership Beginners Chase, winning on his first start for trainer Mouse Morris.

The six-year-old son of Old Vic was previously trained by Philip Fenton and he won a Grade 2 hurdle over the course in February.

Sent off the 11/8 second choice of punters today he made all under Bryan Cooper, shaking off the challenge of Le Vent D’Antan on the run to the last, keeping on well on the run-in to score by four and a half lengths.

Le Vent D’Antan went off the 11/10 favourite and he had to settle for second under Davy Russell for Liz Doyle while Flaming Dawn was a further twenty-nine lengths back in third under Niall Madden for Edward O’Grady at 20/1.

Mouse Morris said of his Gigginstown House Stud owned gelding: "He did it well. He jumped well and fiddled them well. He settled well also.

"He had done plenty of schooling. I think he'll make a nice three-miler."
