Despite being last just over a furlong from home, Ramone kept on best in the closing stages, getting up to win the opener at Leopardstown this evening, the Foxrock Fillies 3yo Maiden, by a head.

The Bill Farrell trained daughter of Marju was sent off at 12/1, after she finished fifth of nine behind Coquette Noire on her debut at the Curragh last month.

Settled in rear by Johnny Murtagh, she got a nice run on the outside in the final furlong, staying on best to hit the front on the line. Danseur De Feu (12/1) was just a head back in third under Chris Hayes for Kevin Prendergast, while the 8/11 favourite (opened at evens on-course) Acting Talent was a further head back in third under Pat Smullen for Dermot Weld.

Bill Farrell said afterwards: "I’ve always liked her. She is a very big filly and she has loads of natural ability. There is probably improvement in her.

"The maidens are probably getting a bit easier at this time of the year and she will be a lovely filly over a straight six furlongs."

The winner is a half-sister to Sharisse who was a good servant to Farrell, winning four time, including a valuable Premier Handicap at the Curragh in 2010.

Timothy Rooney bred and owned Sharisse, and he also bred and owns Ramone.
