Qewy benefitted from a no-nonsense ride by Declan McDonogh to justify favouritism in the Lynn Lodge Stud Maiden at Navan.
Available at 100/30 this morning and sent off the 6/4 favourite in this mile and a quarter event, the son of Street Cry added further momentum to the return to form of the John Oxx yard.
McDonogh’s mount, third to Trading Leather in a Gowran Park maiden last September, took the race by the scruff of the neck in the straight and stretched clear well over a furlong out.
The “jolly” had nearly five lengths to spare at the line over the staying on newcomer Saxo Jack (20/1), who looks one for the notebook. Great Explorer (7/1) completed the placings another three lengths away in third, while Morga (7/1-4/1) was no threat from early in the straight eventually finishing fifth.
Declan McDonogh said, “He’s a nice horse and will definitely improve from that. Mick Kinane rides him in his work at home, and he said he was ready and would go close.
“He devoured the hill and settled nicely, and it was never in doubt from the two furlong pole.”
