"He is still only a baby and for that reason we put blinkers on him. He was on and off the bridle at Down Royal and his previous experience helped today," said Shane Lyons after his brother Ger's Hansian Prince justified 15/8 favouritism under Colin Keane in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction (C & G) Maiden (Plus 10 Race) at Limerick.
The Vincent Gaul-owned Hansian Prince dwelt but he was soon chasing the leaders.
He improved to challenge a furlong and a half out, the Arcano colt ridden to lead over a furlong out, keeping on well in the final furlong to defeat Fior Cliste by two and three parts of a length.
"He was bought as a fun horse but hopefully he's better than that," added Lyons.
"He loves that ground which was a massive advantage today and we'll try and find another race before the end of the season on that ground."
The Stewards interviewed D. O'Brien, rider of Perfect Storm unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion D. O'Brien was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (g) in that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height, and having taken his record into account, they suspended him for 3 racedays
