Colm O’Donoghue swooped down the outside on Fast In The Wind to deprive Joseph O’Brien and Coach House in the juvenile maiden over five furlongs at the Curragh.

Ballydoyle’s Coach House was backed this morning as if defeat was out of the question. Opening at 9/4 he was supported down to 10/11, before going off at 9/10.

He travelled strongly just off Pat Smullen and Highland Falcon who took the seven runners along on the rail before hitting the front 150 yards from home.

However, O’Donoghue switched Fast In The Wind out wide from in behind in fourth and the pair flew home to win by half a length at 14/1.

“Chris (Hayes) should have been on him, but unfortunately he’s banned,” successful trainer Paul Deegan said.

“He’s always shown plenty and he’s a real smart little horse. Five furlongs is no problem, but he would be better with another furlong.

“He shouldn’t have been the price he was. He’s a smart sort and did it well. He would have been unlucky if he hadn’t got up.

“Colm was cool on him. I think he’ll sharpen up for that. The obvious target is the Marble Hill [in May at the Curragh] or he could go down to Cork for a race there.

“I’m delighted for the owners (Paolo Zambelli). They are new owners and are from Italy. They are here to see him and that’s great.”
