Division one of the Fundraise At Dundalk Stadium Handicap saw David Marnane, currently in Dubai at the carnival, land a success through the Billy Lee-ridden Poet’s Pride.
Well-backed earlier and going off a 9/2 shot, the Laurence O’Kane-owned five-year-old got home by half a length from Mulzamm
Freescape finished sixth for Marnane at Meydan yesterday.
“David was happy with him. I was speaking to him today, he's in Dubai which is better than being here!” said Lee.
“He said he was happy with his run the last day when he was even a bit keen and fresh still. He settled lovely there tonight and I got him into a nice rhythm.
“I was travelling well enough that if a gap came between horses I would have taken it but I just went left for a clear run and even got there a little bit soon.
“He's kept galloping away and toughed it out. I'd say if he was stepping up in class he'd be coming back in trip rather than stepping up to a mile.”
P.A. Harnett, rider of Comhghairdeas trained by Andrew Slattery, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right throughout this race and got stopped about 200 yards from the finish when tight for room.
N.M. Crosse, rider of Iseebreeze trained by Anthony Mulholland, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung very badly to the left in the straight.
C.D. Hayes, rider of Neyland (GB) trained by Patrick Martin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount got caught for room about one furlong from the finish when racing between Iseebreeze and Comhghairdeas which were both hanging at that part of the race.
