Martin 'Shakey' Troy's patience with Shakeytry was rewarded at Naas today, as the owner's veteran rolled back the years with a fourth career win, in the Race And Stay Handicap Chase.
Previously successful at Tramore on New Year's Day 2021, the Edward O'Grady-trained 11 year old justified market confidence (4/1 — 3s) under jockey Philip Enright, when scoring by eight lengths from Kildorrery
Shakeytry carries the colours of the Glebeland Farm Partnership and Enright explained “he is owned by Martin Troy, one of Edward's right-hand men who is known as 'Shakey', and Michael Lowry.
“He had a layoff following an injury and this horse is Shakey's pride and joy and he nursed him back. He progressed from his last run in Thurles and came here today in as good shape as they ever had him in. A lot of credit goes to all the team at home and to 'Shakey' too.
“He is a fragile horse but hasn't a lot of mileage on the clock so hopefully he comes out of this well.”
Owner Troy added “I'm with Edward O'Grady for 45 years and I've owned him since he was a foal. He's had leg trouble all his life and I've minded him like a baby. He was good today.”
