Perfect Pacemaker quickened up in fine style late on to make a winning debut in the opener at Dundalk for trainer Danny Murphy.

The Arizona gelding was held up in the five-furlong maiden by Billy Lee and got stopped in his run when trying to make up ground going to the furlong pole.

His gap appeared inside the final furlong and despite drifting over to his left the 14/1 shot soon led and asserted for a length-and-a-quarter victory over Smiling

“He was working well but he's a big raw horse,” said Murphy.

“I said to Billy, for one of mine, he'll walk out of the boxes but in the last furlong he might just find his legs.

“He said to me after 'he's a nice horse Danny'. He always was a nice horse but he's so big and lanky.

“I'd say he'll be on the market. He's a fine looking horse.

“He's from the family of Look Busy and the mother won four five furlong races.

“The boys were saying to run him in a seven-furlong race but I was adamant to run over five.”
