"I didn't think that he would handle the ground but the owner insisted that he ran so it's full credit to Joe (Keeling)," acknowledged trainer Michael Grassick after 14/1 shot Texas Rock took the concluding Dublin Coach Handicap at the Curragh under Billy Lee.
Texas Rock travelled well under Lee, but it could have went either way when the runners had to fully exert themselves inside the last, the winner edging things by a short head over Jacobs Well
"He settled well in front and it's hard to come from behind in that ground. He was overdue a win," added Grassick. Katiymann was one of the big market movers of the day, from double figures into 9/2 second favourite. He had to make do with sixth place.
The Stewards interviewed N.G. McCullagh, rider of Jacobs Well, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f), in that he used the whip with excessive frequency and having considered his clean record, cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
