The market principals dominated in the opener at the Curragh this afternoon, with Officer leading home Storm Piece in the Coolmore Stud The Antarctic Irish EBF Maiden.

With 15 juvenile debutants in the line-up, the Aidan O'Brien-trained victor was sent off favourite at 7/4, with the Ger Lyons-trained runner-up the second choice of punters at 11/4 (from 12s in early shows), after coming in for overnight support.

Out of dual Group 1 winner Hydrangea, the market leader quickly made his way into a prominent position, getting across from his wide draw in 15.

In a share of the lead from the two-furlong pole, the Dubawi colt soon gained a narrow advantage and was pushed out by Ryan Moore in the closing stages, prevailing by half-a-length.

The aforementioned Storm Piece lost little in defeat under James Ryan, while Thrice (8/1), a stable companion of the winner, was just a neck away in third.

"I'm delighted with him. He's a quick horse and relaxed," O'Brien reflected.

"I was afraid he would be out wide with his bad draw first time. I'd say he's a nice colt - a compact, strong horse.

"He did very well from where he was. He got a position and he's very comfortable at seven. I'd say he'll get further, and he has plenty of entries."

STEWARDS REPORT

Adam Caffrey, rider of Snapper Rocks trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stumbled leaving the stalls causing him to unseat. Having viewed a recording of the start and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
