Sir Isaac Newton beats Chemical Charge

Sir Isaac Newton squeezed up the rail to gain the day in the Group 3 Finlay Volvo International Stakes at the Curragh.
Market rival Chemical Charge (6/4) made the running in the ten furlong contest and Ryan Moore sent Sir Isaac Newton up to challenge on the inner with over a furlong to run.
It became tight on the rail for the Ballydoyle colt inside the final furlong but the 11/8 favourite stuck his head out to lead inside the last 100 yards for a three-parts-of-a-length win.
The winner, who claimed the Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot on his previous start, was reversing previous course and distance form with Chemical Charge having been behind him when the pair were second and third to Portage earlier in the month.
"It's taken a long time for the penny to drop with him. He's starting to mature and relax. He's a horse that could suit America as he likes a nice bit of pace,” said Aidan O'Brien.
"He's always been a very good worker but disappointed us on the track. A mile and a quarter seems to be his trip, and he's relaxing now and quickening."
