The John Murphy trained Gregorian Chant made a taking winning debut at Dundalk this evening when landing the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden despite blowing the start quite badly.

The winning colt is from the first crop of stallion Gregorian and today last last to leave the stalls, and surrendered plenty ground in the process.

Ridden by former Champion Jockey Declan McDonogh, Gregorian Chant avoided the fatal injury sadly incurred by favourite Kasriyann entering the home straight and in the end picked up very well to lead inside the final furlong, to beat Roget That by a length and a quarter.

Champion Chase winning trainer Murphy later stated “from the start he's been a dream. He's a gorgeous big horse and next year we'll have big plans.

“Declan was very taken with him. We haven't been hard on him but we have big plans for him.

“He won't run again this year but we'll put him in a few big races next year. He's a smashing horse.

“He's what we drive to Dundalk for. I'd travel for this fella!”
