Memory puts unbeaten record on the line

Sun 29th Aug 2010, 12:31

Richard Hannon's exciting filly Memory will put her unbeaten record on the line in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.

The juvenile has won her three starts to date, each one more impressive than the last.

She landed the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket with a degree of authority on her latest appearance and Harry Herbert, racing manager for the owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, is excited ahead of her latest assignment.

Herbert said: "She seems in very good form. I spoke to Richard Hannon on Friday morning and he said she worked very nicely on the grass on Wednesday.

"She did some faster work the previous weekend, with Hughesie (Richard Hughes) riding her all the time and he's absolutely delighted with her. She's physically doing well and growing up mentally as well, so it's very exciting.

"It's a very hot race and everything has to go right, but to go into the Moyglare as a warm favourite is fantastic for everyone. I'm glad the rain has stayed away from the Curragh as I don't think we'd have wanted very heavy ground.

"I don't think the extra furlong should be a problem. She's not short of speed but her pedigree would suggest seven furlongs will suit her very well."

Memory's main rival on paper would appear to be Jessica Harrington's Laughing Lashes supplemented for this race at a cost of 23,500 euros following an impressive display in the Debutante Stakes over course and distance.

"She couldn't do any more than she did the last time and I'm very happy with her," said Harrington.

"She's a fine, big filly and you'd like to think she'll continue to improve with every run. The ground will be quicker than the last day but she ran on quick ground at Leopardstown and on her debut at the Curragh and it didn't seem to inconvenience her. We know our filly gets the seven furlongs and we know she gets it well."
