Louth & Meath combine for Roscommon win
The 3-member Summerwine Syndicate (2 from Ardee and 1 from Dundalk) lit up the evening at Roscommon when celebrating the all-the-way success of their Waterloo Chateau in the Bet On-Course With Tote Maiden Hurdle.
Indeed some of the syndicate could be seen walking the track beforehand and their dedication paid off as Paul Carberry's mount overcame jumping left in the straight to see off Ardnavalley by a length.
Winning trainer and staunch Meath supporter Noel Meade wasn't present but the Summerwine Syndicate had their pride and joy pose for the photograph with a Louth flag stuck in his bridle in advance of the Leinster Football Final next Sunday. Carberry also a proud Royal, later jokingly threw the flag on the turf and stood on it to calls from the owners, "you'll get nothing for riding him," and "you've just forfeited your fee."
A spokesman for the syndicate commented: "Tom Taaffe had him and was very good but Noel is only about five miles away from us and we had another horse with him. You must remember that this fellow was only about two lengths off Rite Of Passage one day at Galway so he was due a win in a race like this."
