There is no more local a trainer to Gowran Park than Tony Mullins, and his Lass Vega didn't go un-backed when taking the Gowran Park Golf Club Nursery Handicap at 7/1.
Starting off in this sphere after three attempts in maidens, Lass Vega was intent on 'lugging' to her left, under Ronan Whelan, even before she hit the front a furlong out.
Whelan kept her going long enough to hold on from Set To Fire by a head.
"I thought on her Smash Williams run (6th to that fellow at the Curragh on August 22nd) that she was entitled to do that," commented Mullins.
"Her owner, Danny Coogan, based in Meath, bought her as a foal, and he would like to leave it at that (for this year) and take her home.
"We'll see and she won't run with cut in the ground anyway.
"She's progressed with each run and hopefully she'll be competitive in handicaps next year."
