Lambe and Geraghty takes opener at Downpatrick
The opening race at Downpatrick this afternoon went to the James Lambe trained Golden Grimshaw when he ran out a convincing winner of the Mr Baileys Maiden Hurdle under Barry Geraghty.
Geraghty who was never too far off the leaders was challenging for the lead at last when left in front after Fleeting Moment and Andrew Thornton made a bad mistake.
The pair kept on well on the run-in for a four and a half length win over Turner Brown and Andrew Lynch.
Winning trainer Lambe said afterwards: “We only have him nine days, Andrew Lee recommended him to me so it’s all down to him really.”
“He was second at Limerick last time out but was then disqualified as his rider failed to weigh in.”
“My horse’s just haven’t been themselves lately but seem to be running well again.”
The 7/4 favourite Silverlord from the Gordon Elliott stable who finished sixth was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer and was found to be lame in front and in respiratory distress post-race.
