The Inch point-to-point venue in County Cork, has long since been recognised as a staging post for stars of the future. We could have another after De Name Escapes Me careered away with the concluding Powerstown INH Flat Race at Clonmel under trainer/rider Liz Lalor.
De Name Escapes Me's Inch seventh placing, was form that took a boost as recently as yesterday, when the third home on that mid-April day last year, Double Shuffle, scored at odds of 50/1 at Doncaster.
De Name Escapes, owned by Lalor's partner, Tom Keating, was a 20/1 shot (from 25s) and he led two furlongs out, before showing an impressive change of gear in the final furlong for an eight and a half length and two and three parts of a length win from the Gigginstown House Stud pair, Roman Gold and Nickname Exit
"That's my first winner as a trainer-I did my trainers' course at the same time as Nina (Carberry), about two years ago, and only have a couple in training," said Miss Lalor in the aftermath.
"We passed Patrick (Mullins, on the favourite, Nickname Exit) no bother at all, and he's a lovely horse who is for sale."
The Stewards fined Kieran Purcell, trainer, 350 Euros for lodging a passport in respect of Mad Mans Magic in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91.
The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order. (TW & EM)
