A lot of water has flown under the bridge since Preswell Lad made a winning debut at Downpatrick in February 2008 and he took his score to three wins and a placing from six efforts at the track in the Downpatricks Looking Good Handicap Hurdle today.
Backers of the Mickey Butler-ridden favourite (well-treated in this sphere) never had too many concerns as they kept things simple from the front.
The course specialist asserted away from the last to beat Couleur De La Loi by five lengths.
Winning trainer and father to the successful rider, Michael Butler said: "That ground was as quick as he'd like it.
"He had a good run over fences here the last day and he might come back here next weekend if his legs are okay. The Light Syndicate are from south Kilkenny and there are three of them in it."
Indications were afterwards that Mickey Butler may have ridden out his claim with this victory.
Michael O'Hare, trainer of Keep Hope Alive (GB), reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge broke down in running.
M.J. Bolger, rider of Our La Scala Diva trained by R. K. Watson, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having burst a blood vessel.
