Brothers James and Pa King combined for a surprise win with Some Shock in the second divide of the Well Done To All Frontline Staff From Limerick Racecourse Maiden Hurdle.
Bought for E5,500 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in 2018, the son of Getaway failed to make an impact on his debut at Tipperary last month.
Having his first start over flights this evening, the five-year-old gelding was sent off at 100/1 with Pa King in the saddle for brother James (trainer) and their mother Josephine (owner).
Close-up on the outer, the brown victor held a definite advantage from four out and extended his lead before the straight.
Ridden approaching the last, he did tire on the run-in, but done enough to hold off the fast-finishing Good Reception by two and a quarter lengths.
The runner-up was returned at 33/1 under Jody McGarvey for Tom Foley, while Top Line Tommy (5/2) was another seven and a half lengths back in third. Hesamanofhisword who was sent off the 6/4 favourite, could only manage a disappointing fourth, with a mistake five out not helping his cause.
Pa King said afterwards: "We were very disappointed after Tipperary but maybe that was a lack of him running in schooling races and he had a bit of stage-fright. We thought he'd win a 5yo maiden point-to-point so we were very disappointed after Tipperary.
"I did plenty of schooling with him since and we decided to give him a spin over hurdles. He jumped and travelled everywhere and was the best horse in the race.
"He is for sale, is a lovely horse and goes on any ground. He has schooled over fences and was ready to run in point-to-point's before they stopped and that's why he ended up here."
