Danny Mullins and John Ryan have enjoyed a tremendous run of success this season, and the pair successfully teamed up for the twelfth time this campaign when Kilcarry Bridge took the Thurles Beginners Chase.
The nine-year-old gelding made all in this 2m6f event, and kept on well from before the last to beat Bringerofthedawn who didn’t help his chance with a blunder two out, by foru lengths. Coolmill was a further three lengths away in third.
Ryan said, "He's had six or seven seconds over fences and is an unlucky little horse. He looked like a really nice horse but got an injury and we've had to nurse him back and it took a few runs to get him back to match practise.
"Danny gave him a right spin and a super ride but it wasn't the best race in the world. It's ideal for his confidence and I'll look for a little handicap with him next."
Mullins is now third in the jockeys championship on 35 winners, and said “It (this season) has been fantastic and John has been a big part of it. I’m enjoying it and long may the winners last.
“When he was younger he used to run keen the whole way but at least now when you want him to take a breather he’ll do it for you. In beginners chases it’s all about jumping and my lads a handicapper which is a big help here.
“He’s effective on good ground so it will probably be a case of trying to make hay while the sun shines.”
