Tiger Twenty Two (5/2 fav) led after three out and cruised clear down the home the home straight to take the Race Displays Handicap Hurdle by nine lengths, in the process completing doubles for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy.
The Authorized gelding, picked up for 3,500 pounds at Tattersalls Ascot Sales in the summer, had run well when fourth at Navan last weekend on his first start in Ireland, and made light of a mistake when clear at the last to defeat Our Jerry (12/1) with Fu’s Island (11/1) a length further back in third.
The eight-year-old was bridging a gap of six years since his only previous win in a York nursery, when in the care of Richard Fahey, back in 2013.
“He won well and he ran well the other day so we’re very happy with him, said winning trainer Gordon Elliott.
“He’s owned by a group of girls (Gin & Gee Gees Syndicate) from near home. I put them into a horse that was no good so after he ran well the other day I told them this is the horse for you so it’s great that he won for them.
“He’s only rated 44 on the Flat so we’ll have a bit of fun with him. He could come back to two miles as well.”
