"In fairness it's all down to Colin. He rides her everyday. She's just been a bit fussy all year and doing more than we want her to," said Ger Lyons after Colin Keane took race two at Dundalk, on Melisandre for Sean Jones in the Download Paddy Power Super-Fast Messenger Betting App EBF Fillies Maiden (Plus 10 Race).
Off for 120 days since her debut effort, Melisandre, a chestnut daughter of Intense Focus, went off at 14/1 having been around 5/1 in earlier trading.
Tracey Collins' promising first-timer Three Sister gave Melisandre most to do, but she came up a length short at the line.
"She's just not the finished article. We'll put her away now and let her grow up," added Lyons.
"Colin rides her everyday and nobody knows her better than him.
"We thought a bit of her and then just took our time after her introduction at Fairyhouse.
"I thought she did a very professional job there and all credit to Colin."
N.G. McCullagh, rider of Darling Days (USA) trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount reared up as the stalls opened.
