Champion jockey Colin Keane doubled his score in race five at Roscommon, winning the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies on Ballydoyle’s odds-on chance La Joconde
Keane landed the opener for his boss Ger Lyons on Once Upon A River and here the Meath man had to give plenty of assistance to La Joconde (30/100), to get her home in front.
With Seamie Heffernan and Wayne Lordan suspended, Keane got the call up for Oaks ‘also ran’ La Joconde.
The successful Frankel filly made all. She edged left on bend after a furlong, and was ridden two furlongs out.
Edging left and strongly pressed over a furlong out, La Joconde stayed on well under pressure inside the final furlong to beat Karatayka by a length and a quarter.
“She had to work for it but she's a filly that has some very good form in the book already,” said Keane.
“It's nice to get a winning bracket with her and hopefully that can give her a bit of confidence.
“I'd say you'll see a better filly going a little bit further and maybe riding her with a bit more restraint. In a better race you could do that.
“I was just trying to keep it as simple as possible today.”
L.T. McAteer, rider of Jazz Night trained by Barry J. Fitzgerald, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran green throughout this race.
R.P. Whelan, rider of Karatayka trained by M.Halford, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left and he had to use the whip for correction.
C.T. Keane, rider of La Joconde trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle slipped on leaving the starting stalls.
