Weather Watch (13/2) with Shane Foley in the plate aptly sprinted away from his rivals in the mile and six handicap at a sun-kissed Leopardstown.
Jessica Harrington’s lightly-raced three-year-old, having his third start, showed an impressive turn of foot inside the final furlong to leave Night Invader and Waver trailing.
The son of Hurricane Run had been 11th on his first racecourse outing in a Curragh maiden won by Maggie Dalton in June before stepping up in trip to win a Tipperary maiden over an extended mile and a half.
Night Invader (15/2) was beaten into second by five and a half lengths, with another six and a half back to third-placed Waver, the 13/8 favourite.
“That surprised me. The maiden he won hadn’t worked out at all. The one thing I knew would be in his favour would be stepping up to a mile and six,” handler Jessica Harrington said.
“Shane said he travelled and he’s improving. I imagine he’ll get two miles. He loves that ground and the trip. He’s one of those three-year-olds who is improving.”
When asked if he could go for the big amateur race at Galway, Harrington replied: “That could be an option.”
