Railway Hurricane made the most of his opportunity when getting in as first reserve in the opening Lougher Stables Maiden Hurdle at Bellewstown.
The race boiled down to a duel from the second last between Big King and the eventual winner.
Jonathan Moore got a good tune from Railway Hurricane on the run-in as he edged the verdict by half a length.
The 7/1 winner, who had taken a point-to-point on his debut, had run in three bumpers and had unseated at the first on his hurdling debut at Kilbeggan at the start of the month.
“He's been disappointing, I thought he'd win a bumper,” said trainer Gavin Cromwell.
“He disappointed a few times so I'm delighted with that as he works well at home.
“I thought the issue was that he wasn't showing battling qualities but to be fair to him he did today.”
