Heliostatic off mark in Ireland courtesy of stewards
Despite being without the aid of his whip in the closing stages, Declan McDonogh (got a 1 day ban for careless riding) got the newcomer Sleepytimegirl home by a neck in the Lunn's Claiming Race at Down Royal.
Sleeplytimegirl angled out to launch her challenge from two down and in a rough enough race the runner-up Le Rouge Alex suffered interference. This necessitated a stewards enquiry and Paul Deegan's Le Rouge Alex got the verdict in the steward's room.
Conor Hoban rode Le Rouge Alex for owner Peter Shubotham and it was a significant success owing to the fact that it marked Heliostatic's first winner in Ireland as a stallion. The Richard Hannon-trained pair Crius and Costa Del Fortune have won for him cross-channel.
Heliostatic was a decent racehorse for Jim Bolger (also bred by the Master of Coolcullen) and he stands at Oak Lodge Stud in Naas. He is of course a full-brother to Irish Derby and Coronation Cup winner, Soldier Of Fortune.
Le Rouge Alex was bought by his trainer, Paul Deegan for 7,000 Euro at Tattersalls Ireland in September of last year.
There were no successful claims after this event.
