Hayes' pain is Carroll's gain, as Trabajo wins last
Trabajo (10/1 to 8/1 on track) bounced back to the form that saw him win a bumper at Down Royal last month as he raced to a easy eleven length success for trainer John 'Shark' Hanlon, in the final race of the day, the Listowel Whit Weekend Flat Race.
James 'Corky' Carroll sent the winner clear a furlong and a half from home and he stayed on strongly from there to win easily from Golden Call back in second at 4/1, with Dance the Devil a further length and three parts back in third also at 4's.
The winning son of King's Theatre (also sired earlier winner Kalico Kim disappointed on his two efforts over hurdles since winning at Down Royal, finishing well behind Ross Na Righ at Killarney before unseating his rider at Tramore on Friday last, three from home when in third.
Winning trainer John Hanlon said afterwards: "He is a lovely horse, from a right good family. He is closely related to Rhinestone Cowboy & Wichita Lineman.
"We always thought the world of him and he should win his maiden hurdle now.
"Brian Hayes would have been riding him only for he was injured when he was unseated from him at Tramore on Friday. A horse coming from behind stood on his throat and I gave him the week off, so it's a pity for him." (DM)
