With a rating of 63 it looked tough for Moonhall Girl in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Claiming Race. The daughter of Make Believe didn’t know she was a 25/1 shot though, and delivered at Fairyhouse in the hands of Tom Madden.
Trainer Paddy Hayes has his small team in good form and he was turning this Jim Bolger bred out quickly after a Naas fourth placing on Thursday.
She made a slow start but there was nothing slow about her finishing effort and she eventually saw off market-leaders Zoffany’s Delight and The Last Knight by two and a quarter lengths and a length and a half.
Moonhall Girl was clipped in from as big as 40/1 and Hayes wasn’t all that surprised, saying: “She was fourth in Naas the other day when the pace was too slow.
“They went fierce quick there and it suited, played into her hands.
“If someone claims her best of luck to them. She's a nice filly and she's only going to improve as a three-year-old.
“We had a fourth in a bumper yesterday and Flirting Lesa won in Galway. They seem to be coming into right good form and hopefully we can keep it rolling.”
A.J. Slattery, rider of No Patience trained by Andrew Slattery, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount got upset in the stalls and as a result missed the break.
There were no claims after this race.
